About Me

Trained by world-renowned coaches, I have competed in local, state, regional, national, and world competitions across North America in both the National Baton Twirling Association (NBTA) and United States Twirling Association (USTA) organizations. As a teacher and coach, my strengths lie in rolls, solo construction, feature tricks, and multiple baton routines. In 2018, I became an NBTA International accredited judge.
I was honored to be the first male feature twirler at the University of Houston in almost 40 years. At the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, I was also a feature twirler with the Cornhusker Marching Band. I was further honored to teach with the world champion Sue's Stepper-ettes in Omaha, NE and at Chase Dance in Lincoln, NE. I currently reside in Houston, TX. |
Teaching Philosophy

I believe every student is unique. Everyone learns in a different way, I try to cater my teaching style to the needs of every student. Whether it is through imagery, step-by-step instruction, or visual demonstration, finding the best way for a student to learn is my goal.
I believe in an educated twirler. I teach my students not only proper twirling technique, but also the mechanics of baton twirling. Breaking down individual tricks makes for a more productive individual practice. If the student knows each step of a trick, corrections can be made to master it. I believe dance is an integral part of baton twirling today. While I maintain an ability to critique dance technique, I do not teach it. All students should highly consider supplementing their twirling lessons with dance classes or private lessons. Gymnastics may also benefit a twirling athlete. I believe in professionalism, ethics, and sportsmanship. Twirlers are often lauded for their individualism, preparedness, and professionalism. Approaching not only twirling, but life with these characteristics in mind, I believe, leads to success. Mastering these traits will take you far! |
